Overview
Audiory is designed with your privacy in mind. We believe your listening habits and personal data should remain yours. This policy explains what information Audiory collects, how it's used, and how it's protected.
TL;Dr We don't collect your data, we don't send it to our servers, we never see anything you do, play, or download.
Data We Collect
Audiory collects minimal data necessary to provide its features:
- Library data: Information about your audiobooks (titles, authors, covers, progress) is stored locally on your device and optionally synced via iCloud.
- Server credentials: Connection details for your SMB/SFTP servers are stored securely in your device's Keychain.
- Bookmarks and progress: Your reading progress and bookmarks are stored locally and synced via iCloud if enabled.
- App preferences: Your settings (accent colour, playback speed, etc.) are stored locally on your device.
Data We Don't Collect
Audiory does not collect, transmit, or store:
- Personal identifying information
- Analytics or usage tracking data
- Advertising identifiers
- Your actual audiobook files or content
- Location data
iCloud Sync
If you have iCloud enabled, Audiory uses Apple's CloudKit to sync your library, progress, bookmarks, and server configurations across your devices. This data is stored in your private iCloud container and is only accessible to you. Apple's iCloud is subject to Apple's Privacy Policy.
Network Connections
Audiory connects to the internet only when:
- Syncing data via iCloud (if enabled)
- Connecting to your personal SMB or SFTP servers (as configured by you)
- Fetching audiobook metadata from Apple Books or Audnexus (when you manually search for metadata)
We do not operate our own servers and do not receive any data from the app.
Third-Party Services
Audiory may connect to the following third-party services at your request:
- Apple Books (iTunes API): Used to search for audiobook metadata. No personal data is sent.
- Audnexus: Used to fetch additional metadata including chapter information. No personal data is sent.
Data Security
Your server credentials are stored in the iOS Keychain, Apple's secure credential storage system. All data synced via iCloud is encrypted in transit and at rest using Apple's security infrastructure.
Your Rights
Since all your data is stored locally on your device or in your personal iCloud account, you have complete control over it. You can delete all app data by uninstalling Audiory or clearing its data in iOS Settings.
Children's Privacy
Audiory does not knowingly collect any personal information from children. The app does not require account creation or collect any identifying information.
